On Friday, August 2nd, 2019 at approximately 6 a.m., Unite Here Local 5 Union Members from Hale Nani Rehabiliation & Nursing Center hit the streets of Makiki, Hawaii for a 1 Day Strike Warning lasting until the following morning at 6 a..m. on Saturday, August 3rd, 2019

Six departments from the Hale Nani Rehabilitation & Nursing Center which included the Nursing Department, Recreation Department, Dietary Department, Housekeeping Department, Maintenance Department, and the Laundry Department all came together as one in unity and solidarity for better employee staffing which equates to better patient care and better living wages for their families and the community as a whole

The first photo of the day within the Hale Nani 1 Day Strike Warning Rally taken with my Samsung S9 Plus. A photo of yours truly found towards the left of the photo along side a buddy of mines from our Kalihi days! And if you didn’t know well now you know! I’m known as the “EIGHT08” guy. The guy that created and runs that website. Mr. EIGHT08. The guy with Supremacy Car Club. But my real name is Peter Rosario and I have been a Restorative Nurse Aide at Hale Nani Rehabiliation & Nursing Center for 19 years now. And yes, I am a Unite Here Local 5 Committee Leader at Hale Nani Rehabiliation & Nursing Center. As for yours truly, along side our fight for better employee staffing which equates to better patient care and better living wages for our families and the community as a whole, I feel there’s a need to engage with our local and national efforts to push our government to expand funding for Medicare & Medicaid to ensure services to our patients and to be able to provide security for future generations

“It was my first time on a picket line but it felt victorious fighting along side my brothers and sisters of Unite Here Local 5 for what we deserve!” says Union Committee Leader Julienne Corpuz who has been a Nurses Aide for a little over a year now at Hale Nani Rehabilitation & Nursing Center

Found towards the center of the photo throwing up the double shakas is Union Committee Leader Epifania Tagaca who has been a Nurses Aide for 5 years at Hale Nani Rehabiliation & Nursing Center. “Working for 5 years at Hale Nani Rehabiliation & Nursing Center, I believe there’s a need for an increase in both staffing and wages. Especially now that we have more residents, it’s getting harder for us, the CNAs, to provide aid to all the residents in a timely and safe manner. Salary wise, living in Hawaii is really expensive and I understand that we as a whole have needs to sustain ourselves and our families.” says Epifania Tagaca

Pictured above and towards the left of the photo is Union Committee Leader Jacqueline Morimoto Bajo who has been a Dietary Aide for 28 years within the Dietary Department at Hale Nani Rehabiliation & Nursing center
