EIGHT08 BLOGS: Keaʻiwa Heiau State Recreation Area
The Keaʻiwa Heiau State Recreation Area is a 384 acre park located at the summit of a hill and neighborhood called Aiea Heights on Oahu, Hawaii
The Keaiwa Heiau is located at the entry point of the Keaiwa Heiau State Recreation Area. Keaiwa meaning mysterious and Heiau meaning temple translates to mysterious temple. Perhaps the name Keaiwa Heiau meaning mysterious temple was due to the fact that one could not explain the powers of the Kahuna and the herbs used in their practice of healing back in the day
“The Keaiwa Heiau is a temple with life giving powers believed to be a center where the Hawaiian Kahuna Lapa’au ie herb doctor practiced the art of healing herbs grown in the nearby gardens were compounded and prescribed with prayer.”
The Aiea Loop Trail can be found within the Keaʻiwa Heiau State Recreation Area and runs along the ridge on the west side of Halawa Valley and offers views from Pearl Harbor (Pu’uloa) and the Wai’anae Range to Honolulu and Diamond Head (Le’ahi)
