Chinatown located in Honolulu, Hawaii is a bustling area known for it’s Chinese American community, restaurants and eateries, fresh local produce vendors, herbal and tea shops as well as traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners that can be found throuhout the area
Fresh local produce vendors such as the one pictured above can be found within the Oahu Marketplace in Chinatown offering a wide range of fresh fruits and vegetables that can’t usually be acquired via your typical grocery store
Meat markets as well as seafood markets can be found within the Oahu Marketplace in Chinatown as well. Pictured above is Chun’s Meat Market which offers almost any type of meat from roasted pork, duck, and turkey tails all the way to raw chicken feet, pork intestines, et al. Pictured below is a 1 lb. order of their roasted pork which was to be eaten at a later time as pupus 😋
Pictured below at the edge of the Chinese Cultural Plaza is a statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen that was donated by the Kaohsiung City Goverment in 1984 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the Revive China Society
Chinatown was one of the most important sites of activity for Dr. Sun Yat-sen during his time in Hawaii as he delivered speeches, organized gatherings, and promoted his revolutionary ideals
Found behind the statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen are trees that provide shade as seniors play mah-jongg and checkers throughout the day
Numerous takeout restaurants can be found throughout the area as well such as Royal Kitchen as pictured above
Maunakea Marketplace located on the corner of Hotel and Maunakea Street is an open-air market offering goods such as produce, jewelry, souvenirs, and an array of food options to choose from
