National Empanada Day is held annually on April 8th recognizing the delicious pastry that comes in different forms with different ingredients from different cultures. In Peru, the traditional Empanadas are filled with fried ground beef, onions, olives, hard boiled egg, and raisins. After baking or frying, the Empanadas are sprinkled with icing sugar, and before biting into them, with a squeeze of lime juice. Over the years, Empanadas with various other fillings such as chicken, ham and cheese or only cheese has become very popular as well

Their Pastelitos consists of fried corn mix casing stuffed with ground beef, potatoes, carrots, and rice served with red salsa and sour cream. A Pestelitos is basically a smaller version of the Empanada but differ from the dough, fillings, cooking method, and country of origin
